From the Editor: Inside Edition

Bob Capazzo

Knowing where to find the frothiest cappuccino, the handiest plumber, the cheesiest pizza or the always-available parking spot at the mall (parking level three in front of Saks) is what makes any town feel like home. Maybe it’s the thrill of the find or the fun that comes with the search. Either way, we all treasure our personal chest of insider information and dip into it often, sharing our gotta-try-it gems only with people we know. It’s not to say that there isn’t something better out there, but when someone trusted shares a personal must-do—whether it be love for a particular cocktail at a favorite bar, or a shaded spot on the beach for reading—well, then, it must be true, and we run to check it out. If we love it too, we make it our own.

That’s why we put together this totally subjective Insider’s Guide to some great musts: To share with our inner circle of readers part of what makes working and living in Stamford such a pleasure. We dug deep for this project, in which we look beyond what is already widely known and considered “the best” to instead alert you to what is hidden in plain sight. Ultimately, the intent is to paint a larger picture of all that is great in our town. So imagine the brainstorming for this story. I asked friends, coworkers (current and former), neighbors, readers. Some of you called and e-mailed with suggestions. It was a frequent, and sometimes heated, topic at home, particularly when it came to pizza. Writer Beth Cooney shared many of her own tips. Ideas are still pouring in; so many we already have a working list for next year’s guide.

We got plenty of tips, but I’m sure there are more out there, so please let us know what you think. (Plus, I wouldn’t mind checking out some of your faves.) In the meantime, take a look at the dishy collection of did-you-knows we compiled here. We fully expect it will prompt you to shop, taste and tour your way around town. Happy New Year!
