9/11 Tribute

Hundreds of 9/11 survivors, along with the friends and families of victims, gathered at Chelsea Piers for the fourth annual Always Remember gala. The event was hosted by VOICES of September 11, an organization cofounded by New Canaan resident Mary Fetchet, who lost her son when the towers of the World Trade Center collapsed a decade ago. Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani was the keynote speaker. Brian Williams, who is the managing director and anchor for NBC Nightly News as well as a resident of New Canaan, served as master of ceremonies. Thomas Kean, chairman of the 9/11 Commission, was the event’s honorary chairman. The evening included a cocktail reception, a silent auction and musical performances by the First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan Choir. “The tenth anniversary is a milestone for our families and the country, and it’s also an important time to reflect, honor and recognize those special individuals who played an important role in our healing,” said Fetchet. Proceeds from the gala will support the organization’s ongoing efforts to provide support for 9/11 families, rescue workers and survivors.
