Stamford Restaurant Week Grows Greener

Locally grown produce to be featured in deals

Local harvests — including veggies from Hubbard Heights Farm —  will be featured in Stamford Restaurant Weeks. Yes, that’s weeks, two of them, in which many downtown restaurants will offer special deals. From August 19 to September 2, the 31 participating restaurants will cook lunches for $10.13, $12.13, or $20.13 and dinners for $15.13, $20.13, or $30.13.

Ten of the restaurants will use local corn, tomatoes, greens and herbs from Hubbard Heights Farm, Stamford Museum and Nature Center’s Heckscher Farm, Green Up Group, and Domus, all in Stamford. We’re used to upscale, wine-centric Napa & Co. cooking farm-to-table dishes, but sports bar Bobby Valentine’s is surprising us with farm fresh produce in their restaurant week menu chopped salad.

The idea for using local and sustainable food stuffs came from the Mayor’s Sustainable Task Force. All the farms use organic and sustainable growing methods. Kids can get in on the healthy action during Restaurant Weeks too. Sponsor Stamford Hospital’s Kids’ Fans 5-2-1-0 program promotes a healthy lifestyle, and participating restaurants will offer nourishing kids’ prixe fixe meals for $6.95 at lunch and $9.95 at dinner.

If local tomatoes don’t thrill you, Restaurant Weeks are still a great opportunity to try those restaurants you’ve been wanting to try. And with two whole weeks, you can try even more of them.
