Long Wharf Theatre

Long Wharf Theatre

Who says you have to head to the city to enjoy great theater? You can go to the Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven instead. Housed in a former food terminal near the New Haven Harbor, it is in its forty-eighth season of revitalizing classic and modern plays, rediscovering neglected works and premiering the work of new voices. In its history the Long Wharf has been known for the quality of its stagings, resulting in the transfer of more than thirty productions to Broadway and Off-Broadway. Remaining plays this season include 4000 Miles by Amy Herzog, The Shadow of the Hummingbird by Athol Fugard and The Last Five Years, a musical by Jason Robert Brown. Bonus: no tolls or bridges getting there. Long Wharf Theatre, 222 Sargent Dr., 203-787-4282; longwharf.org.
